Earth Day Scavenger Hunt

Today we celebrated Earth Day!

We read this book by Todd Parr:

And then we talked about ways in which we can help the earth!

We learned from the book that we can:
- eat all the food on our plates so we don't waste any
- keep the fridge closed (to save energy)
- turn the lights off when we don't need them
- turn off the tap while brushing our teeth
- use less water
- use cloth grocery bags so we can re-use them
- use both sides of the paper
- recycle
- throw garbage in the garbage can

Then, we went outside and did a nature walk scavenger hunt. These were the items the students tried to find:

Meet Jingles

Meet Jingles!

He is our Christmas Elf on a Shelf. For those who haven't heard what an Elf on the Shelf is, it's an elf who watches us throughout December to make sure we are being good. During the night when everybody is sleeping, he reports back to Santa in the North Pole. When he flies back, he sometimes causes mischief or will write little notes for us to see in the morning.

There is ONE rule we have to follow. We cannot touch our elf, otherwise he will lose his magic and will not be able to fly back to the North Pole.

Take a look at what Jingles did last night in our classroom. This is the note he wrote:

This is the mess he made!

In our classroom, we have a scrapbook for the morning class and a scrapbook for the afternoon class. Each student made a scrapbook page with photos and their name. They look amazing, but Jingles wanted to be a part of our scrapbook!

Look at all the sparkles!!!!

Remembrance Day

This week we made poppies! We read the story "A Poppy to Remember" and then we discussed Remembrance Day.

We learned that poppies are a symbol of peace.

Our poppies are made from coffee filters and pipe cleaners! Don't they look beautiful?
